Tom Sawyer Movies

There have been a few Tom Sawyer movies made. Some are more famous than others. All Tom Sawyer movies feature Tom Sawyer, Becky and Huckleberry Finn, his buddy, who also has movies of his own based on the book also by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) called the Adventure of Huckleberry Finn. Most of the Tom Sawyer movies are based on Mark Twain's classic, the Adventure of Tom Sawyer. Tom Sawyer lived in Hannibal Missouri.

There are even cartoon and comic books of the Adventure of Tom Sawyer made.

Here is one of the musical adaptation of the story of Tom Sawyer made in 1973 starring Johnny Whitaker as young Tom Sawyer, Jeff East as the wild child Huckleberry Finn and young Jodie Foster as Tom's sweetheart, Becky Thatcher. Tom Sawyer The cast of this Tom Sawyer movie did not become bigger actors later on except Jodie Foster who played Becky Thatcher who went on to win an Oscar later on in her acting career.

There are a lot of catchy but simple songs in this Tom Sawyer Musical Movie.

Plot of Tom Sawyer Musical Movie (spoiler)

Tom was an undisciplined child who loved river boats and hanging out with his buddy Huckleberry Finn. He lived with his aunt who promised to look after him when his mother, her favorite sister, died. Aunt Polly had two children of her own, Cousin Mary and Cousin Sidney. While Cousin Mary was always nice to Tom, Cousin Sidney always set up traps in the house to catch Tom. They did not get along so well.

Becky Thatcher moved to Hannibal Missouri with her father who was the Judge of the town. Everyone called him Judge Thatcher. Tom and Becky liked each other straight away.

One night, Tom and Huck went to the graveyard but they were not the only ones there. Dr. Robinson hired two conspicuous men to dig a grave. Things got out of hands as Injun Joe tried to demand more money from Doc. Robinson. He refused and Injun Joe became violent. Dr. Robinson defended himself and accidentally knocked out Muff who was known as the town's drunk. Injun Joe then killed Dr. Robinson with Muff's knife and framed him. Muff woke up with a bloody knife and was arrested. Tom and Huck witnessed the whole thing but were too scared for their own lives so they made a blood pack to never tell anyone.

When Tom found out that Muff was going to be killed for the crime he did not commit, he came to court and told everyone what he saw. Injun Joe threw a knife at little Tom and fled. The police could not find him. Meanwhile, Huck freaked out and wanted to leave town to hid for a while. Tom did not want to go at first but went after Aunt Polly hit him. Tom and Huck ended up on an island where they led a life of pirates for a while.

In town, everyone thought Tom and Huck were dead. Tom realized that he made everyone worried so he told Huck that they had to return to the mainland. Huck did not want to at first but agreed to return. They arrived in time for their own funeral. Everyone was joyful to see Tom and Huck again. Everyone hugged Tom.

The town celebrated and everyone got together to watch a firework when Tom took Becky into a cave with the best water in Missouri. Injun Joe was also in there and he once again tried to kill Tom. Once the town realized that Tom and Becky were missing everyone went looking for them. Huck led the way since he knew the way. In the cave, they found stuff belonging to Injun Joe and they hurried to save Tom and Becky. Injun Joe was burned and the kids were saved.
